Introduction to English Paper Piecing

39.00

(3 hour workshop) Come and learn the traditional craft of English Paper Piecing, which involves folding fabric around paper or card templates then hand sewing the covered templates together to get a very accurate result, and is a great way of using up scraps of fabric.  During the workshop you will learn how to:
•    cover straight-sided and curved templates using a traditional method and a more modern method
•    fussy cut
•    stitch together hexagon templates to make a hexagon flower
•    hand applique the hexagon flower to backing fabric
We’ll then show you some options for what to do with your hexagon flower: make a mug mat, make a pin cushion, or carry on to make a larger quilt.  You’ll be able to start your option in the workshop but depending on which one you choose you may need to finish it at home.

All the materials needed (including the fabric) to make a finished hexagon flower will be provided, along with refreshments (tea, coffee, homemade cake).  We’ll also provide the materials needed to turn the hexagon flower into a mug mat or pin cushion.  If you would prefer to make a larger quilt using your hexagon flower as the start point you are welcome to get as far as you can during the workshop but then you will have to carry on with your own templates & fabrics at home.
